Catching up: Sport-Touring and Trackdays

There have been few Moto events lately I've attended I'll share here....just some snapshots and telling you how freaking hot it is here in Texas. (note: actually it's not as hot as normal, we've received more rain than I can EVER remember this summer and it's kept the temps down)

A few weekends ago, we joined up with the TSBA guys (TexasSportBikeAssn) out in the Texas Hillcountry for the '07 Hotter than Hell ride.
Luckily, tropical storm (erin?) just passed through and kept the temps in the lovely low 90's range...which is actually really nice for that time of year.

The other sportbikes wouldn't let me play any reindeer games when I was on my ugly BMW GS. :(
We went' this year two-up, so the GS was perfect for the trip.

A few weekends previous, I attended a rare Saturday Trackday over in College Station, Tx at Texas World Speedway....ohhhhahhhh! NASCAR banking!
We were expecting rain that day, but it cleared out and was a scorcher!

A good number of tracks in the area don't have any coverage in the pits....The large covered work areas at TWS were a godsend that weekend.

Another new-ish pimped-out SV-650 that belongs to a friend of mine

And last but not least, the first trackday since last winters modifications to the RC51.
The new radiators worked great (but unable to tell how great, more on that later), the new gearing wasn't as short as I thought it would be and everything held together perfectly...well almost.
As you can see, I rode the RC naked at the track just in case I needed to make any adjustments or fix/tighten any of the new mods.

07-07Trackday (4)

Towards the end of the first session in the morning, just passing up the pit-in...heading up onto the banking, full throttle up through the gears, head on the tank, glance up to see the rpm's....and nothing.
The tack, speedo, my gauges were gone. Freaking flopping from the triples, hanging from a plug my guage(s) were hanging on by a thread. I negotiated the rest of the track one handed. Doh! Guess it was a bit too much of the ol' Twin's vibrations.
Sooo, the radiator's worked great but I didn't get to see the full spectrum of temeratures that the bike hit. Eh, great excuse to hit a trackday in September!
